Vårgårda municipality has just over 11,000 inhabitants, half of whom live in rural areas.
Vårgårda is a manufacturing town and is known for its good business climate and has for many years been well placed in the Swedish Business Federation's ranking of Sweden's best business climate. It is home to major industries such as Autoliv, Gustavsberg, Sundolitt and Lantmännen Doggy, among others. The companies collaborate in the local business network Center of Innovation.
The municipality has a rich association life that is involved in community development in the municipality. This includes the non-profit association Destination Vårgårda, where associations, businesses and the municipality work together to develop the tourism industry in the municipality. The municipality has football pitches, an indoor football hall, sports halls, ice rinks, a tennis hall and a golf course, handball, football, ice hockey, a cycling club, floorball and orienteering.
Tånga Heds Camping, hostel and event facility is Vårgårda's largest visitor destination and many different types of events are organized here every year. Everything from dog shows to concerts and fairs. There is also Tångahallen, an indoor hall with a seven-man pitch covered with artificial grass.
There is one secondary school and one upper secondary school in the municipality. In the town center there are 3 primary schools and in the countryside there are four more schools. In addition, there are several kindergartens. A new modern primary school is currently being built in central Vårgårda.
