Vårgårda municipality has just over 11,000 inhabitants, half of whom live in rural areas.
Vårgårda is a manufacturing town and is known for its good business climate and has for many years placed well in the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise's ranking of Sweden's best business climate. There are large industries such as Autoliv, Gustavsberg, Sundolitt and Lantmännen Doggy and others. The companies cooperate in the local business network Center of Innovation.
The municipality has a rich association life that is involved in the development of society in the municipality. These include the non-profit association Destination Vårgårda, where associations, businesses and the municipality work together to develop the tourism industry in the municipality. The municipality has football pitches, an indoor football hall, sports halls, an ice rink, a tennis hall and a golf course, handball, football, ice hockey, a cycling club, floorball and orienteering.
Tånga Heds Camping, hostel and event facility is Vårgårda's largest tourist destination and every year many different types of events are arranged here. Everything from dog shows to concerts and fairs. There is also Tångahallen, an indoor hall with a seven-a-side pitch covered with artificial turf.
In the municipality there is a secondary school and a secondary school. In the central town there are 3 primary schools and in the countryside there are four more schools. In addition to this, there are several preschools. Right now, a new modern primary school is being built in central Vårgårda.
