Borås

Borås is the second largest city in the densely populated Västra Götaland region. 1.5 million people live within a 10-mile radius. With more than 110,000 inhabitants, Borås is the country's thirteenth largest municipality. In addition to the central town of Borås, there are 20 urban areas in the municipality. The largest are Dalsjöfors, Fristad, Sandared and Viskafors.

Borås Green City

The city is nestled in parks and green areas and with nature around the corner. Rya ridges, for example, which offer 500 hectares of wild nature and breathtaking views. Around the city there is a wreath of open-air farms and clubhouses, good starting points for excursions to forests, lakes and outdoor recreation areas.

In green Borås you can live centrally and still have nature close by. Most residential areas are just minutes from the forest and land.

The centre in Borås has been given new life

Borås city centre is increasingly alive. Sandwall's place and Knalletorget along Viskan are, like Hötorget, places that have recently been rebuilt and become meeting places with outdoor seating and other things.

The main square becomes a very special place on Thursday evenings during the summer when thousands and thousands of boråsers and tourists gather in The Main Square to see artists perform on the large outdoor stage.

Centre for Design and Commerce
Borås is a trading town and a textile town. For a few decades in the 20th century, Borås was one of Sweden's fastest growing cities, thanks to the then expansive teko industry. Today, Borås has become a centre for textile design, development and trade. Many well-known textile and clothing chains are headquartered in Borås, such as Hemtex, Gina Tricot, Svea and 8848 Altitude.

The tradition of trade and textiles is united in the mail order and e-commerce, where Borås is a Nordic centre with well-known companies such as Red Cats-Ellos, Cellbes, Haléns and H&M Rowells. Many millions of parcels are sent from Borås every year.

The habit of mail order and e-commerce in handling goods flows has given Borås cutting-edge expertise in logistics and distribution. Engineering and electronics are other heavy parts of Borås industry. There are big companies such as Ericsson, Volvo Buses and Parker Hannifin.

Borås' strategic location is one reason why many companies choose Borås. Borås is the hub for four national roads, including the motorway between Gothenburg and Stockholm. Similarly, there are railways in four directions. With the X2000 you can reach Stockholm in just over 3 hours. A half-hour drive away is Landvetter Airport.

College and research

Right in the city centre rises the university's newly built city campus, which has provided an exciting architectural fund for the long parade street Allégatan. The University of Borås has approximately 12,000 students and education in areas such as economics, data, technology, textiles and design, and libraries. There are also teacher and care courses. The University is a competence resource for business, as is SP, the Swedish Institute of Technology.

Exciting cultural life

Borås has an extensive and exciting cultural life that, in addition to sculptures and street art, also includes city theatre, symphony orchestra and a dozen museums.
The Textile Museum shows Europe's largest collection of textile machines still in operation. Borås Konstmuseum has a magnificent collection of Swedish 20th century art, and Borås Museum shows cultural history from all over Sjuhäradsbygden. Borås Stadsteater gives about 200 performances per year on its two stages. The Experience House Åhaga, an old locomotive workshop that was given new life in a gentle renovation, is the home of the Borås Symphony Orchestra.

Experiences

The zoo and a variety of sports facilities have made the area around Knalleland a sports and experience area. Skatehall and ice rink are available here, as well as facilities for tennis, floorball, curling, gymnastics, boules and swimming. Here you will find a modern football stadium, an athletics arena, an athletics hall, and an outdoor swimming pool, all gathered in one area, integrated with the shopping center and with the zoo and camping as the nearest neighbors.
